Imagine a world where object oriented programming was replaced with a mark-up language and scripting code. With the combination of HTML5 and CSS3 that dream is a possibility. We now have the ability to develop true cross-platform application for smart phones, render beautiful websites, and unlock an entirely new level of creativity on the web.

Video is no longer a headache, web developers need not concern themselves with plug-ins, cross-platform compatibility, etc… the video can and will be rendered without the use of flash, Silverlight, windows media, or quicktime.  With Adobe currently releasing an update pack to its wildly popular WISYWIG Dreamweaver, HTML5 is quickly becoming a standard. Adobe’s quick adoption of the technology is a bit awkward as it is hailed as a replacement for flash.

The new structure will make it much simpler to develop sites, these two images show the progression from HTML4 to HTML5:

By removing some of the more cumbersome tags, it allows for much quicker development and troubleshooting. This really is a step in the right direction, as more tags would have to be added to the existing HTML framework to properly incorporate modern design techniques and SEO.

What does this mean for SEO?
Not much, things will continue to go on as they have. HTML5 allows easier use of the “h” header tags, and more efficient back end framework for SEO pro’s. The W3C has posted this document describing the differences between HTML4 and HTML5. Informative, albeit in the extremely long winded W3C format.
